Hello and welcome to my blog!

My name is Morgan Conover in case you didn’t catch that bit already. This summer I’m going on a long road trip across the U.S. and parts of Canada. Since traveling 20,000+ miles in a car for multiple months is a wonderful impetus to document more, I decided to create this blog. I will post not only about places and experiences on the road, but about ideas, cultures, people, nature and anything else I’m pondering in the moment. You can expect diverse, interesting, inspirational, and intellectual content with the occasional dash of humor and wittiness and probably some sprinkles of sass thrown in for good measure.

More than anything, this blog is a record of my own becoming as a person. While I can’t fully anticipate what I’ll learn on this road trip, although I know it will be substantial and life-changing, the road is a metaphor for the journey of my development and growth as a human being. These blog posts are earnest strides towards attempting to understand the aeon-old philosophical question: how should I live? I’m always searching for an answer to that question. Through the stories I collect and the lessons that I learn maybe I can find one. Or many.

Throughout my blog, I’ll reference many great thinkers and doers through their quotes and actions because I believe that building knowledge and wisdom is far from a solitary pursuit. Maria Popova, the genius behind Brain Pickings, says that the core ethos behind her site is that “creativity is a combinatorial force: it’s our ability to tap into our mental pool of resources—knowledge, insight, information, inspiration, and all the fragments populating our minds—that we’ve accumulated over the years by being present and alive and awake to the world, and to combine them in extraordinary new ways.” It’s this sort of thinking, with attention to the multiplicity of ideas and the consilience that brings them together, is the style I strive to emulate in this blog because I think it’s the most fulfilling and expansive.

Some other random tidbits about me:

  • I was raised between the small city of Quincy, Illinois and the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.
  • I just graduated from Syracuse University, Class of 2016, with B.A. degrees in Writing and Rhetoric and Middle Eastern Studies and a minor in Global Security Studies.
  • I thrive on new experiences, outdoor adventures, thought-provoking conversations, and meeting new people.
  • I am simultaneously a member of the Beyoncé Beyhive and a country music fan. (Just one example of my eclectic tastes!)

Please feel free to look around and engage in discussion. Thank you for visiting my little corner of the web!
